This is where you can buy all your chess books, equipment and presents at discounts rate. The full shop is run by the London Chess Centre which can be found at www.chess.co.uk or on the phone 0207 388 2404. Visitors to my website are entitled to a further 10% discount. In order to gain that discount simply type NPERT in the checkout when you buy online and the discount will kick in automatically.

Since the shop buys in bulk, prices are already very competitive and this will give you an even better deal!

My recommendations are:

Chess sets: For a high quality durable set I’d go for the Club 1 Gambit Pieces @ £7.50, Club 3 box for the pieces @ £1.50 and large folding chess board @ £6.95 totaling £15.95 less your 10% discount comes in at £14.35. Cheaper or more expensive options are available at your choice, but this will last you a lifetime and is very affordable!

Books for beginners:

Starting Chess by A.J.Gillam @ £5 goes over the rules and teaches you chess from step one! If you want to learn how to castle, or what “en passant” is then this is the place to start! With your discount this comes in at £4.50.

Once you are looking to move up a level “How to beat your Dad at chess” by Grandmaster Murray Chandler will push you up past that beginner stage onto a real tournament player, with plenty of examples for practice. At £10, £9 with your discount this will work you much harder than the Gillam book.

There is a fantastic book once you reach the next level up and really want to improve called “Improve Your Attacking Chess” by International Master Simon Williams. This is a must have for players looking to really excel. At £14.00 it’s a bit more expensive, but with a 10% discount that comes in at £12.60 and is worth every penny. If you are local I may even be able to get you an autographed copy!

For gift ideas you can purchase chess wrist bands, calendars and even packs of playing card with chess puzzles on each card. All at very low cost!
