For online coaching I usually use ICC, but chesscube (which is free to use through the ECF website) or playchess are options. My rate is £50 per hour for tuition. For ICC:
Go to www.chessclub.com and click on “Get a seven day free trial of ICC”. Download Blitzin 2.6 from their website from the “Download Free Online Chess Software” Section. Once you have done this you are good to go! Double click on the Blitzin Icon on your desktop. Type in User Name and Password set in part 1. Now you have entered into ICC. You will quickly become familiar with everything, but the main commands it is useful to know are: (typed into the main console)
Finger – shows personal statistics including rating etc. Finger gives stats of that person e.g. finger tooeasy gives my statistics. Follow allows you to watch the games of that person. Typing 5 automatically puts you in the pool of 5 minute players – for a 5 minutes for all your moves game. Typing 1 automatically puts you in the pool of 1 minute players – for a 1 minute for all your moves game – very hectic!!
When it comes to starting your subscription you can award a friend 2 months free membership. If you let me know then I will tell you the name of another student of mine to allocate the 2 months too. In return you will be allocated 2 free months next time someone else joins.
For Online tuition you will also need skype – for talking online. Go to www.skype.com and download the free software. If you don’t have one, you will need a USB headset which can be connected to the USB port on your laptop/PC. One place these can be purchased from is www.amazon.co.uk for approx £20.
